Dear First Grade Parents,

We look forward to a great week!

Our library days are coming to an end soon. They will be packing to move to the new school. Please check around at home for any overdue library books.

We will begin collecting our take home readers during the week of May 2nd.

Our last math homework page will go home the week of May 16th.

Our grade level awards will be May 25th. More information about that will be coming soon.

Spelling tests take place on Fridays.  Please make sure your student practices writing the spelling words throughout the week.

 

In Language Arts this week:

 

Listen attentively to speakers

Decode words with vowel digraphs for the  /o/ sound (au, aw, a, augh)

Read high frequency words

Understand and use pronouns

Practice phonics using the Spalding method

Plan a draft by generating ideas

Spelling Words: haul, cause, saw, claw, paw, dawn, book, took, nothing, along

High frequency words: early, instead, thought, along, nothing 

In Social Studies this week:

We will identify historical figures who have exhibited individualism and inventiveness.

 In Math this week:

We will select addition or subtraction to solve problems using two digit numbers

In Science this week:

We will identify and compare the parts of plants.

Combine sounds from letters and common spelling patterns to create words (prefix: re-, un-)

Read high frequency words

Understand and use pronouns

Practice phonics using the Spalding method

Plan a draft by generating ideas.

Spelling Words: retry, reuse, remake, unpack, unsafe, unlike, saw, cause, goes, build

High frequency words: build, goes, laugh,  only 


In Social Studies this week:

We will describe how technology changes the way families live


In Math this week:

 We will draw conclusions and generate questions using information from picture and bar type graph

 

In Science this week:

We will identify and compare the parts of plants
